HALLCO® i-Series drives
The i-4000 and i-6000 are the heart of the floor: six hydraulic cylinders under the floor driving the three slat groups through the cycle. HALLCO calls this line "the new standard" for drive units.
Seals inside, away from the dirt
The drive sits under the truck, exposed to road dust, water and spilled cargo. The i-Series moves the seals inside the cylinder tube. According to HALLCO, this keeps them further away from, and shielded against, corrosive agents such as road salt, so the drive lasts longer.
- Anodized aluminium manifolds that resist corrosive environments
- An added wear ring in the shaft bore of the head manifold, replaceable on its own
- Double chrome-plated steel piston shafts
- Two-step Accelerator™ mode as standard
Specifications
From the HALLCO USA "i-4000 & i-6000 Series Drive Unit" document. Figures in brackets are approximate conversions.
| Specification | i-4000 | i-6000 |
|---|---|---|
| Rated load | 35 tons (≈ 31.8 t) | 45 tons (≈ 40.8 t) |
| Cylinders | 6 | 6 |
| Nominal stroke | 10" (254 mm) | 10" (254 mm) |
| Piston diameter | 3" (76 mm) | 3.5" (89 mm) |
| Effective piston area | 12.37 in² | 17.48 in² |
| Shaft coating | Double chrome plated | Double chrome plated |
| Rated pressure | 3000 psi (207 bar) | 3000 psi (207 bar) |
| Rated flow | 30 gpm (≈ 114 L/min) | 30 gpm (≈ 114 L/min) |
| Max theoretical load speed | 7.5 ft/min (≈ 2.3 m/min) | 5.3 ft/min (≈ 1.6 m/min) |
| Mounting | Under the floor | Under the floor |
| Direction | One-way or two-way | One-way or two-way |
| Hydraulic assembly weight | 242 lbs (≈ 110 kg) | 260 lbs (≈ 118 kg) |
The i-6000 has larger pistons, so it pushes heavier loads but moves the load more slowly at the same oil flow.
Compatible floor slats
Both drives work with Standard, Double Ridge, Triple Ridge, Topseal™, Tufdeck™, Leak Resistant (NLR) and Leak Resistant HD (NLR-HD). The i-4000 can also use LoadKeeper™.
Each profile suits a cargo group, from wood chips and produce to recyclables. See the selection table on the floor slats page.
Tractor hydraulic requirements
HALLCO recommends having a hydraulics specialist design the oil supply. Nhu Tin checks the points below when surveying your truck.
Hydraulic oil
- Oil typeAnti-wear (AW) oil, ISO viscosity 32 to 46, petroleum or mineral based. Some environmentally friendly oils can be used after checking with the factory.
- TemperatureBelow 82 °C. Overheated oil is one of the cases not covered by the warranty.
- MoistureLess than 1% water in the oil.
Pump and pressure
- FlowNo more than 30 gpm (about 114 L/min) for the i-Series and BRUTE.
- Pressure3000 psi (207 bar) or more.
- Relief valveSet to a maximum of 207 bar and rated for at least the pump's maximum flow.
Oil tank
- Capacity equal to the flow per minute, for example 30 gallons for a 30 gpm pump
- Inlet larger than 30 mm, outlet larger than 50 mm
- A diffuser on the return line and the pump supply port near the bottom
- A breather cap, a level gauge and a visible thermometer
Filters and gauges
- Pressure filter of 60 micron maximum, rated for the maximum pressure and flow
- Return filter of 25 micron maximum near the tank, with at least a 38 mm line back to the tank
- Matched quick couplers rated for the system pressure and flow
- A 0 to 350 bar glycerin-filled pressure gauge
